....Here is the story of our Dublin Taiko...
Taiko is a Japanese drum ensemble that encompasses music and choreographed movements. It embodies cultural awareness and beautiful art. During the 2004-2005 school year, 20 students at the Davis Middle School (Dublin City Schools) were submerged in a year-long Taiko residency with Eitetsu Hayashi through the Dublin Arts Council. Sensei Susann Barrett's love of the art of Taiko led her to carry it on to future classes as students in 6th through 12th grades continue to learn and practice this art.
In the spring of 2012, the Dublin Taiko was honored to bring Eitetsu Hayashi back to Dublin to work with our current students during a one-week workshop. Sensei Hayashi performed with them at their annual gala on March 24, 2012.
The Taiko students have performed at many community events including school assemblies and carnivals; annually at the Columbus Asian Festival; international festivals in Ohio and Kentucky; and performed by invitation in Walt Disney World's Epcot and Downtown Disney.
